Office Pest Control Services

Rodents, cockroaches and ants are the main pests found in office blocks

Rodents

Rats and mice can be significant pests in office blocks. They can get easy access through the garage. Often they will nest in and around the parking areas as they can get easy access to the outside to forage for food. However, they can make their way into the office space which can provide plentiful safe, warm hiding spaces to nest and often food in the kitchen areas.

Rodents are an obvious concern regarding health and the risk of spreading disease if they get into the office and food preparation areas. But actually the biggest issue with rodents is the damage they can cause. Rodents need to continuously gnaw hard materials to keep their teeth in check. In particularly they like to chew electrical cabling as it’s the perfect size to get their teeth around. Apart from causing damage to cabling they can cause equipment to short out which could result in failure of systems or loss of data. Such rodent activity are also known to cause fires.

Our rodent control programs require a combination of rodent proofing activities, rodent monitoring and the use of traps and baits as appropriate. It is virtually impossible to rodent proof parking areas to prevent rodent entry, but if there rooms containing critical infrastructure, it may be possible to rodent proof specific areas. There are also new rodenticide regulations in place, which restrict the types of rodenticides

Cockroaches

Large cockroach species will readily enter parking areas of office and can then make their way to high floors through the walls, ceiling spaces and lift shafts. These large cockroaches are relatively easy to deal with. However, in office blocks you can also get German cockroaches and brown banded cockroaches. These cockroaches only live indoors and are typically introduced by accident in boxes or other belongings.

The main issue with cockroaches is that they carry a range of diseases that can cause stomach upsets. However, if an infestation becomes established, they do release a lot of allergens which may cause issues for some. The additional issue with German and brown banded cockroaches, is that they like to hide inside electrical equipment – toasters, microwaves and computers, which can cause obvious issues.

Most of our cockroach control activities focus on prevention. However, if German or brown banded cockroaches get introduced we will need to carry out a German cockroach treatment.

Ants

Ants are normally only an occasional problem in office blocks and then only normally in food areas on the lower levels. However, if nests become established in the building they can become very difficult to control. Depending on the species, some will nest in roof and wall voids, others, particularly smaller species readily nest in power points and computer equipment. Ant problems are generally dealt with when they arrive, as most ant species require a specific ant control treatment.
